JAMB profile code generation for 2026 UTME registration – To facilitate registration for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and eliminate potential hurdles, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has notified prospective candidates that they can now generate and save their profile code for use when registration commences.
The board also advised candidates to obtain their National Identification Number (NIN) which is a prerequisite for UTME/DE registration. We have already provided instructions on how to get your NIN for candidates. Check out this post: NIN Application Guidelines and Requirements for JAMB 2026 Candidates.
Candidates are advised that the phone number used to send a request for their profile code via text message to one of the two quick codes will be automatically linked to their respective names and will be used by the Board in all communications related to application, examination and admission. Candidates will receive a ten character profile code on the same phone number.
If your NIN contains any errors in your name, date of birth or other personal details, you are advised to correct them immediately so that the changes take effect before JAMB registration commences. All personal information used for UTME registration is taken directly from the NIMC database.
To generate their profile codes, candidates are expected to: NIN (one space) and then the NIN number (eleven digit number) via text (SMS) to 55019 or 66019 from your personal GSM number. For example, an SMS should look like this; “NIN 12345678901” (without quotes); send it to 55019 or 66019. Remember, “12345678901” should be your personal NIN.
Once the profile code is generated, it cannot be changed and the bio data is automatically retrieved from the NIMC.
Frequent problems when generating a profile code:
- If you get “Error 550/66019”: This indicates a malformed request; candidates must use the correct order (eg NIN 00000011111 to 55019/66019).
- If you get “The number is already registered”: This indicates that the phone number is linked to another profile; candidates need to get a SIM card or use a new number.
- If you see “Unable to verify NIN”: You are advised to wait and try again later.

Prospective candidates are also urged to abide by the strict disclaimer regarding the use and application of henna otherwise known as “L ali” / “L ale”. This is to avoid problems with biometric verification, as it has been found that the application of henna on the fingers interferes with the biometric verification process. Furthermore, in the candidates’ attempt to remove their beautiful henna designs, they used chemicals that destroyed the knots on their fingers, thus making biometric verification and authentication difficult, if not impossible.
JAMB also urged candidates to protect their ten fingers both during registration and during the examination, stressing that a successful biometric verification is essential for entry into the examination hall. Without it, candidates will not be given access to the exam questions.
