UNICAL SUGĀ – The Government of the University of Calabar Students Union (UNICAL) has officially announced the launch of the eagerly awaited Students Week 2026. In a recent internal memo SUG Vice President Ms. Bernice Ekong shared important updates approved by the school administration.
A significant change for this year’s event is the revised schedule. The program will now begin on Thursday, January 22, 2026 instead of the previously announced dates. Additionally, the event has been redesigned as a condensed program and is no longer run as a full week-long series of activities.

Despite the shorter format, SUG promises an intense and engaging experience for all students, affectionately known as Malabits and Malabresses. The group is said to include a variety of activities aimed at inspiring, entertaining and engaging the student body, from intellectual symposiums to social gatherings.
In her announcement, Ms. Ekong called for mass participation and said: “I call on every malabit and malabresse to come out in numbers, participate in activities and show the world why UNICAL is a strong and competitive house.”
Students’ Week is a highlight of the UNICAL calendar, celebrating student life, talent and intellectual energy. This year’s edition of compacts is all set to deliver an unforgettable experience within the revised timeframe.
